For August, I returned to the roots of J.Crew’s coastal heritage, reimagining timeless classics through a modern lens. Heritage-inflected storytelling anchored the season, drawing on four decades of J.Crew’s coastal aesthetic: broken-in authenticity, windswept ease, and relaxed athleticism.
The editorial, shot on location Out East, celebrates the brand’s deep connection to East Coast summer culture. The editorial cast felt like family - both born and chosen - echoing the warmth and familiarity of storied ’80s and ’90s catalogs, yet with a distinctly modern sensibility.
The imagery captured the spirit of summer’s end spent by the sea: weathered, wood-shingled houses that grow better with time, salt spray on sun-warmed skin, and barefoot gatherings on the beach. It’s a narrative of enduring pieces - like frayed rollnecks and time-softened shirting - that only improve with age.
